PININFARINA HAS CREATED A QUARTET OF VEHICLES INSPIRED BY BRUCE WAYNE

The DC Universe may be in tatters at present, but Pininfarina is doing its part to try and keep it alive with a quartet of unique Batman-inspired models. Those include two variants of its B95 Barchetta and Battista GT, dubbed the ‘Dark Knight’ and ‘Gotham’ editions.

The glossy dark blue (Nero Profondo) ones you see are the Dark Knight versions, which are rounded off with black accents, 20 or 21in alloys and many servings of black Alcantara within.

The Gotham alternatives, meanwhile, combine a much stealthier grey hue (Argento Vittorio) with tan leather. Both will likely get nicked within 30 seconds if they were to end up in Bruce Wayne’s city of work and play, mind.

Regardless of which colourway is chosen, the Battistas gain some minor exterior enhancements over their standard forms, comprising extra air inlets in the front, revised carbon wings out back and new shark fins along the tailgate.

Let’s move back to the interiors of both cars for a second, where the headline act is none other than… Alfred Pennyworth. Yep, Pininfarina has hired the world’s most reassuring butler to serve as the new voice command system which, let's face it, is very cool.

Other cabin changes include a new curved glass roof, revamped door design and quilted leather along the centre panels to match the fancier stitching. You’d be lucky if these even lasted 20 seconds in Gotham, let alone 30.

The powertrains for both remain untouched, so they retain the 120kWh lithium-ion battery and quad-motor setup, resulting in 1,874bhp, 1,696lb ft of torque and a standstill run to 62 in under two seconds. That should be enough to outrun 90 per cent of the mobs you’ll encounter en route to your shift at Arkham Asylum. Maybe.

Here’s what Pininfarina’s chief design officer, Dave Amantea, said: “Designing an all-electric hypercar inspired by Bruce Wayne is a dream assignment for our team, giving them creative freedom to place themselves into the imagination of someone as iconic as Bruce Wayne. These two exclusive specifications for our two hypercars represent the ultimate vehicles for the man behind the most famous mask in the world.”

And here’s a comment from Warner Bros global consumer products boss, Robert Oberschelp: “Collaborating with Automobili Pininfarina on designing these incredible, state-of-the-art vehicles exemplifies our Wayne Enterprises guiding motto: partner with premier brands to bring Bruce Wayne's elevated taste into the real world. These stunning hypercars, featuring elaborate design and futuristic technology, celebrate the Wayne lifestyle while offering an innovative product unlike anything else in the market.”

No word on pricing or delivery dates as yet, but if you have to ask and all that. Time for you to shake the dust off that Caped Crusader outfit from 2009 and prepare your finest sore throat...
